Man On A Wire
Did anyone else see the interview with Philippe Petit on Andrew Denton's Enough Rope last night? Filmmaker, James Marsh, has recently made a documentary on Philippe's greatest feat, his 'coup', and it's called, Man On A Wire, and details Philippe's tightrope walk between the top of the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center buildings in the 70's. Between the towers, as in, on the top of them, along way off the ground, walking on a tightrope... for someone who suffers pretty intense vertigo, he seems both absolutely crazy and completely amazing to me.
My vertigo has gotten so bad that I actually experience this funny tingling sensation in my feet even when I am not only experiencing heights myself, but also while watching people on tall buildings on TV - so the tingles were out of control watching someone walk across the tightrope between the WTC. I think it's become worse since I've had to wear glasses for reading/TV, because it doesn't seem so bad without them - strange...
Anyway, during his interview, Philippe talks about his walk and they cut to footage of him LAYING DOWN on the wire, whilst in between the two towers - LAYING DOWN people! I don't even know how that is physically possible. That is insane! And then he stands up and continues his walk. The walk was illegal, and required teams on both towers, with his friend shooting the tightrope wire between the towers with a bow and arrow.
Now apparently, a young lady named Jackie, was so overwhelmed by the beauty of what Philippe had done that pretty soon after his walk she 'had to make love to him' - Philippe was pretty coy on this subject - maybe its because he HAD A GIRLFRIEND at the time, Annie.
Anyway, this movie looks amazing, I can't wait for it to come out...
