Today was spent sleeping most of the morning away, then I woke up in time to watch the US Presidential election. Considering I don't really follow US politics, I thought it might be a chance to see what both candidates were about. I mean, because I consider myself to be a bit left wing, I probably identified more with Barrack Obama - because I'd heard he wants to withdraw the troops from Iraq, and that he was pro-choice, but I'd heard good things about McCain too, so was ready to be wowed by either...
And to be honest, I wasn't really. But I can say, not as an American (because I'm obviously not), but as a citizen of the World, that it would be a bad, bad thing for McCain to become President.
From what I saw today, he truly believes that American's are BETTER than all other people on earth. He believes that Russia is an evil empire (well, maybe, he said) and that when you look into Putin's eyes, you see the words K.G.B. And, among other things, he believes that it is not necessary to get the OK of the UN security council before invading any country/sending in troops to a war zone.
I know that with the rise of nations such as China, Russia and India, that America is losing it's super power status. But McCain makes me feel like America was the most popular/rich kid at school and now when some new kids come in with more money and are more popular he's running around clasping at straws bullying all the other kids to like him. But the thing is, in the school situation all the other kids would realise that America was annoying anyway, and wasn't popular because of a whole host of reasons and probably start to like the other, new kids, and have the equivalent of free-trade agreements - maybe they'd swap lunches?
So all this got me thinking, as a 'citizen of the world' and all - and I reckon that somehow we should get a say in the American elections, because it kind of seems to me that they don't make the best decisions (George Bush). America is a dangerous country - they don't play by school rules, and odds on, they're gonna piss of the school bully Iran and he'll bomb the crap out of someone - so it affects us all....
I'm not sure of the logistics of this - perhaps we'll just get Kevin to pass on our thoughts... I don't know... actually, i think I'm just all a bit delirious... fever is eating me up... OK... back to sleep
* I just read back through this all, and it doesn't make sense - apologies if you feel like YOUR head is about to explode...
I meant that if McCain gets in he's going to continue the shocking foreign policy (by insulting new super powers like China, or referring to Russia as an evil empire) that the Bush administration have, and that may impact the rest of the world - so, as citizens of that world, we should have a voice in choosing who will run America - because we most likely will be directly affected
